The Ungodly Man Pt. 2
We have studied the first verse of the ungodly man. Let's notice a few more things from Psalm 1 about the ungodly man.

With verses 1-4 in mind you can understand what verse 5 is referring to.
Psalm 1:1-4
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. [2] But his delight is in the law of the Lord ; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. [3] And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. [4] The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
We understand that the ungodly are going to do ungodly things and they will always try to bring the godly down. In review, we must remember that ungodly means wicked, and a wicked person is going to do wicked things. From verse 1 to verse 3 we have found what the blessed, happy man does and will not do. In the same verses you will find what an ungodly person will and will not do.
For example; a blessed, happy man will not walk in the counsel of the ungodly but an ungodly person will and so on and so forth.
[5] Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
Verse five starts off with the word therefore. In order to rightly divide the Word of God we must understand that the word therefore is joining the verses before to this verse that we are looking at today.
The next two words are speaking about the person that the word therefore is speaking about and that is the ungodly. Notice the next line in this verse: shall not stand in the judgment.
Since the ungodly do the things they do they are unable to stand in the judgment.
Think about it this way: the ungodly will stand before the God of Heaven but their works, mindset, and way of thinking will ultimately bring them to their punishment. Why is that? Because they have sinned.
Sin must be paid for and the all knowing God knows exactly what a lost person has done because the greatest sin is unbelief. They will not be able to stand before God with a clean conscience knowing they have done what they have done and say “Lord, I tried my best to do right” and are unable to blame their upbringing or background. If you do the crime you must deal with the punishment.
I'm glad it doesn't have to stop there. You may ask, what do you mean? God made a way for us to be clean in his sight, His righteousness can be placed on your account.
A wicked man is not a saint just because he does something good, nor a person that opens the church doors one time churchgoer.
There was a story about a lady that locked her keys in her car, as she was trying to unlock her car to no avail she prayed and asked the Lord to send someone to help her. As she finished praying a man on a motorcycle got off and said, "ma'am, I can see you are having trouble can I help you?" She said, "I locked my keys in my car and I can't get them out." A few minutes later he had the door open. As he began to walk off she said, Lord, thank you for sending me this nice man to open my car door. He said in reply, "I am not a nice man. I just got out of prison for breaking into cars."
Isaiah 64:6 states: But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
We often see bad things as good. With the help of the Lord we can make the right choices.
Everything we do will always come short of the glory of God according to Romans 3:23. I am thankful that it is not my righteousness that gets me to Heaven, but it is His righteousness that gets me there.
Notice the last line in the verse as we finish:
....nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
This is speaking of the sinner, the guilty ones that cannot be in the congregation of the righteous. This reminds me that there will be no sin in Heaven, Hallelujah!!! Sin cannot be in God's presence, nor should we allow sin to be in our presence. What I mean by this is we must not allow sin to go on in our presence.
Notice the exhortation in the book of 1 Thessalonians.
1 Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
A blessed, happy man will stay away from certain things because of the exhortation, as we have seen, in verse five of Psalm one. The ungodly man doesn't care whether he goes somewhere that a person ought not to go or does things a person ought not to do because he is a wicked man. He will do evil things, may God help us stay clean before Him. How do we do that? By asking Him to help us do what we need to do and with his help we can overcome it.
Psalm 1:1-6 KJV
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. [2] But his delight is in the law of the Lord ; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. [3] And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. [4] The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. [5] Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. [6] For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
