The Two Ways: Which One Are You On?

Justin Baker • February 8, 2023

I don't know about you, but I have been encouraged and strengthened by Psalm 1:1-5. It's time to take a good look at verse six. As we get started, would you consider asking the Lord to open your heart and mind to what God has for you?

I don't know about you but I have been helped by this first chapter of Psalms. Understanding more and more of the blessed is the man versus the ungodly man.

We will be discussing in our Fire-starter devotional verse six. This is the final verse of this chapter but that doesn't mean it is the final outline we will cover. As you have already seen in past devotionals. We often come upon different passages that will direct itself to something we already have covered or talked about but that is fine because the Bible will always line up with other scriptures, never will it contradict itself.

Please notice our verse for today:

Psalm 1:6 KJV

For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

The word knoweth has a thought of cares for, advises, appoints.

See the blessed, happy man will always go down the path that the Lord has for him.

The blessed man's path leads to life if you want to put it that way. The ungodly path leads to destruction.

Our passage tells us that the way of the ungodly shall perish, may we consider this fact for a moment.

The way of the righteous is:

A.) Bible centered

B.) God fearing "fearing to hurt the heart of God"

C.) Leads to life

The way of the ungodly is:

A.) Man centered

B.) Man fearing "peer pressure"

C.) Leads to destruction "perish"

These two paths are paths that we must choose and the path we choose tells what kind of person we are. If we choose the path of the righteous it will be a Bible centered, God fearing, and will lead to life path.

Man has always been the center of the ungodly. The reason being is because it is always about man and if man is not in the center of it they do not want anything to do with it.

The main goal of Psalm 1:6 is a decision that you have to make. This decision is whether you will follow a path to life or follow a path to destruction. May God help us choose life!!!!

Matthew 7:13-14 KJV

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: [14] Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Psalm 1:1-6 KJV

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. [2] But his delight is in the law of the Lord ; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. [3] And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. [4] The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. [5] Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous [6] For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
