The Great Old Testament Passage Pointing To Jesus Pt. 10
As we have studied Psalm 2 I hope you have been encouraged by our Savior. This Psalm is all about Him and should be referenced that way. Let's take a look at verse 10.
10] Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
There is an exhortation here and we must not miss it. Verse nine deals with the humbling of the king's of the earth verse ten is an exhortation to be wise and be instructed.
Wisdom is a very interesting topic that we have seen and will see throughout the Bible.
Knowledge is knowing at a higher level, wisdom on the other hand is applying what you know and putting it to action.
Now that the kings of the earth have been humbled and broken to pieces its time for them to walk in the knowledge they have about our Savior.
How can they walk in wisdom in that day?
A.) By fearing the Lord
Proverbs 9:10 tells us the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. This is also mentioned in Psalm 111:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments : his praise endureth for ever.
I believe in that day there will be alot of fear of God because He is to be feared and referenced simply because Reverend is His name
Psalm 111:9 KJV
He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.
B.) By following His leading
Men are hard to lead but if we will walk in wisdom we must follow the path that the Savior has prepared for us. The songwriter said, "follow, follow I will follow Jesus." May that be our prayer.
Knowledge says, "you are no match for the Savior." Wisdom says, "knowledge is right, let's not go that route let's walk this way."
Knowledge tells me I can't beat a pack of lions by myself, wisdom encourages me to stay away from the lions. Same thing goes for anyone that tries to go against the Savior. May we consider the fact that we will not win and take instruction.
This leads to the second part of this verse: ...be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
To be instructed is to be taught, to be corrected. He told the kings of the earth to be wise and then He told the judges to be instructed. Basically, learn from this.
I wonder this morning if we either need to be wise or instructed? Do we have knowledge without wisdom or do we need to be instructed on what not to do?
This is not only applicable to the future but also today. We know many that have tried to go against the Lord and have lost and we should take knowledge of the lost battle and apply wisdom to our life.
May God help us be on the side of truth and right. So many are going astray today, but may we be found faithful.
Psalm 2:1-12 KJV
Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? [2] The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, [3] Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. [4] He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. [5] Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. [6] Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. [7] I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. [8] Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. [9] Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. [10] Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. [11] Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. [12] Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
