You Must Mention Who God Is, And Let Him Confirm It! Pt. 3
The Psalmist David as we have seen the last two days has cried out to God to confirm who David claims God to be. Let's notice the last phrase of this verse today.
Notice verse seven: Psalm 3:7 KJV Arise, O Lord ; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.
Notice the last phrase: thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.
We learned from Psalm 1 that the ungodly man is a wicked man and the Bible stated that the way of the ungodly shall perish. If you notice in our text this morning, it states that the Lord had broken the teeth of the ungodly.
Not only does the way of the ungodly perish, but the ungodly will be harmless. The word teeth refer to animal teeth which when the teeth are broken the animals are harmless.
David understood that in times past that if he was close to God that the ungodly were harmless to him, and even now in the present situation God was able to make them harmless. When the Lord has conquered the enemies He makes them harmless to me and you. The only way the enemy becomes harmful is if you let them. Notice what the Bible states in Ephesians 4: Ephesians 4:27 KJV Neither give place to the devil.
The Lord has already conquered Satan; we must be overcomers. How do we do this? By submitting unto God. James 4:7 states: Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
You must understand, many do not want to submit to God because if they do they may have to change some things in their life. It may be family, friends, co-workers, or someone you just met and are getting acquainted with them. It also could be what you do during the day or how you go about your day.
The harmful things come because we allow them in our life, the harmless things come because we are guided by the Shepherd. It was David's sin that put him in the situation he was in, when God was a part of the situation there was nothing to worry about.
I heard someone say once that if you and I are in God's will we are indestructible What a statement that is! The harmful things come when we are away from the Shepherd and Lord. When a sheep goes astray they find themselves in the dirt; hurt by thorns; bruised by trees; and hurt by other animals, but if they were to have stayed close to the shepherd they would have not had certain situations happen. I am looking forward to studying verse by verse Psalm 23 because we will learn more about the sheep and the Shepherd.
David had known many different foes in life but I believe this is the greatest earthly foe that David had to deal with, because it wasn't David's friends that rose up against him first but his own son. We do know that Absalom stole the hearts of the people of Israel but it was Absalom's rebellion that ignited the flame of others following in pursuit. (2 Samuel 15)
Although David had known many foes he knew that if he stayed close to the Lord that the foes would be harmless to him. David knew before the enemy could get to him they had to go through the Lord first. If you and I will remain behind the King of Glory we too can enjoy the victory against the harmless enemy.
A dog that doesn't have teeth does not bother me, it's the ones that have teeth and can bite. I'm thankful to know that the God of Heaven has conquered the enemy and made them harmless.
Application to today's Fire-starter: The only way the Devil can be harmful to you is if you allow him to be that way. We have the greatest weapon to fight the fight against the Devil but if we do not use it we are making the Devil harmful to us.
Just like if there is carbon monoxide in the house but you have a detector that detects that scent if you never plug it in then the carbon monoxide can be bad for you. Same thing goes for the Christian if we do not use our weapons against the world, the flesh, and the Devil we make them harmful to us.
A Call to Action: When you face the enemy remember they are no match for our God that has already conquered every foe known to man. The Savior conquered His flesh; by not eating and turning the stones into bread; conquered the world; by not giving into the world's system; and last but not least the Devil; by not bowing down to Satan. We can do the Same today as long as we stay close to our Father. May God help us enjoy the victory of the harmless enemy.
Our hymn today is: Trusting Jesus
1. Simply trusting every day,
Trusting through a stormy way;
Even when my faith is small,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.
Refrain:
Trusting as the moments fly,
Trusting as the days go by;
Trusting Him whate’er befall,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.
2. Brightly doth His Spirit shine
Into this poor heart of mine;
While He leads I cannot fall;
Trusting Jesus, that is all.
3. Singing if my way is clear,
Praying if the path be drear;
If in danger for Him call;
Trusting Jesus, that is all.
4. Trusting Him while life shall last,
Trusting Him till earth be past;
Till within the jasper wall,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.
The second hymn is: Victory through grace
1. Conquering now and still to conquer, rideth a King in His might;
Leading the host of all the faithful into the midst of the fight;
See them with courage advancing, clad in their brilliant array,
Shouting the Name of their Leader, hear them exultingly say:
Refrain:
Not to the strong is the battle, not to the swift is the race,
Yet to the true and the faithful vict’ry is promised thro' grace.
2. Conquering now and still to conquer, who is this wonderful King?
Whence are the armies which He leadeth, while of His glory they sing?
He is our Lord and Redeemer, Savior and Monarch divine;
They are the stars that forever bright in His kingdom shall shine.
3. Conquering now and still to conquer, Jesus, Thou Ruler of all,
Thrones and their scepters all shall perish, crowns and their splendor shall fall,
Yet shall the armies Thou leadest, faithful and true to the last,
Find in Thy mansions eternal rest, when their warfare is past.
Psalm 3:1-8 KJV
Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. [2] Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. [3] But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. [4] I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. [5] I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. [6] I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about. [7] Arise, O Lord ; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly. [8] Salvation belongeth unto the Lord : thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.
