You Must Mention Who God Is, And Let Him Confirm It!

Justin Baker • March 6, 2023

We have studied the first six verses of this chapter and I have been helped and I hope you have been helped. Today we will look at verse seven.

Notice the text verse:

Psalm 3:7 KJV

Arise, O Lord ; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.

The Psalmist David calls on the Lord to confirm or accomplish what he has already stated about the Lord.

If you remember according to verse 3 the Lord was David's 1.) Shield 2.) Glory 3.) Lifter up of his head

As we saw in verse six David declared he would not be afraid of tens of thousands people. These were the ones that had set themselves round about him.

David calls upon the Lord for a confirmation. When you make a car or house payment (or any payment for that matter) you want a confirmation number showing that it was paid.

The confirmation number is a verification that it was paid or it happened. David, after saying that God was many things, called on the Lord and said "arise." We know the Lord can do a lot of things, yet we never call on Him to do them.

Sometimes we call on the Lord to do things that we must do first. For example, we want people to get saved, yet we do not go out and do the great commission. You say, "brother Justin, the great commission is out of date." My friend, the great commission is not out of date, but an attitude like that is.

We want God to confirm who He is when we do not show who God is. God help us!

We must show who God is, and allow Him to confirm or accomplish what we say God is doing.

If we say that God can provide for our needs, we must give Him time to provide for us. If we say God can answer prayer, we must allow Him all the time He needs to answer it.

Let me remind you this morning that it is not on your time table that your prayers will be answered, but His. I think too often we rush God in our prayers, and the world not only sees it that way but they expect it to be that way.

David never gave God an amount of time He needed to answer David's request, but simply asked God to show Himself strong and who He is.

Application to today's Fire-starter: give God all the time He needs to perform the request you ask.

Don't allow others to view Christ differently by the way you live your life.

A call to action: we have heard it said, "Patience is a virtue." May we find ourselves patient for the answer that God will give us in His timing.

Don't rush the Lord!!!!

Our Hymn for today is: I will sing of my Redeemer

1 I will sing of my Redeemer
and his wondrous love to me;
on the cruel cross he suffered,
from the curse to set me free.
Sing, O sing of my Redeemer!
With his blood he purchased me;
on the cross he sealed my pardon,
paid the debt, and made me free.

2 I will tell the wondrous story,
how my lost estate to save,
in his boundless love and mercy,
he the ransom freely gave.
I will praise my dear Redeemer,
his triumphant power I'll tell:
how the victory he gives me
over sin and death and hell.

3 I will sing of my Redeemer
and his heavenly love for me;
he from death to life has brought me,
Son of God, with him to be.

chorus
Sing, O sing of my Redeemer!
With his blood he purchased me;
on the cross he sealed my pardon,
paid the debt, and made me free.

Psalm 3:1-8 KJV

Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. [2] Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. [3] But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. [4] I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. [5] I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. [6] I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about. [7] Arise, O Lord ; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly. [8] Salvation belongeth unto the Lord : thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.

We find a great example of a man in Genesis 6 who is doing what God has commanded him. The question today is, are you doing what has been commanded of you?
