What Can The Enemy Say About The Lord Looking At Your Life?
Since the start of our study we have learned that David is dealing with the punishment from his sin in 2 Samuel 11. We will see in verse 3 today where he looks to.
I am often reminded that sin will cause you heartaches and troubles but we must not look to everyone else for our sin but our Savior.
Verses one and two is David trying to put the attention on others instead of himself but now he is directing his attention to the Lord. Notice verse 3:
Psalm 3:3 KJV
But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
Yes, there were those that now saw the Lord differently because of David's sin but David himself knew the Lord as He is.
According to 2 Samuel 12:14 the sin David committed caused the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme notice the verse:
2 Samuel 12:14 KJV
Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.
When we sin it gives the enemies an opportunity to look at the Lord differently than who He is. If a child does something wrong it allows others to put the blame on the parents even though the parents are not like that.
The way you represent the house of God will show how others around you view the house of God. The way you represent the school you go to will show whether or not the ones looking at that school want to go there.
I've been around businesses that have had workers that have given the company a bad name, ultimately making me not want to go there.
I've often wondered how the bitterness, anger, and resentment that we hold on to affect how others see the Savior we serve.
When the prophet Nathan spoke to David about his sin he told David how he had given occasion to the enemy of the Lord to blaspheme Many times I've wondered how many times I have given the enemy occasion to blaspheme.
Tomorrow we will study more on who the Lord is but I think it important to understand the importance of staying right with God. Here are some examples of those that put dishonor to our Savior and possibly could have caused others to think differently about the KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
Jonah-
Jonah 1:3,10 KJV
But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. [10] Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.
Peter-
Matthew 26:69-74 KJV
Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. [70] But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. [71] And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. [72] And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man. [73] And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee. [74] Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.
Judas-
Matthew 26:14-16 KJV
Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, [15] And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. [16] And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
Application: Our actions and our words are very important when it comes to the things of Christ. Are there some things you need to change? If so, take a moment and write them down and then act upon it. If we catch ourselves doing things that could cause others to not want to know more about Christ, may we change our ways before it helps them stay in the way they're going.
Psalm 3:1-8 KJV
Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. [2] Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. [3] But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. [4] I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. [5] I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. [6] I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about. [7] Arise, O Lord ; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly. [8] Salvation belongeth unto the Lord : thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.
