The Great Old Testament Passage Pointing To Jesus Pt.5

Justin Baker • February 13, 2023

Man that goes against God never wins. In fact, if you were to ask Jacob how his experience wrestling with God went he would tell you his life has been changed forever. The same goes for any man or kingdom that rises up against the God of Heaven.

Let's notice our text verse for today; verse 5:Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

It is a wonderful fact to note that the God of Heaven doesn't have to fight back or battle against the enemy, simply for the fact that when He has to speak and the enemy is silent. We know that at the voice of God the Son, Jesus, the waves of the sea stop their raging. We also know that at the battle of Armageddon He will not lift a finger, a sword, or a spear, or have Armor on Him but the saying upon His side KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. He will only have to speak and at His voice the enemy is conquered. We can look at Matthew four and note what the Savior does in time of temptation. He doesn't fight Satan, He doesn't give in to Satan He simply speaks His Word. Notice the scriptures:

Matthew 4:1-11 KJV

Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. [2] And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. [3] And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. [4] But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. [5] Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, [6] And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. [7] Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. [8] Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; [9] And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. [10] Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. [11] Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

Two times does God the Son, Jesus, say; "it is written" the third thing he says to Satan is, "get thee behind me." This is a reminder that the battle has already been won.

God the Father's voice spake and their was silence in fact if you read where Jesus was baptized, not because he needed to be baptized but because he wanted to show us an example of how we should be as believers, God spake saying this is my beloved Son..... I believe all of earth stood still to hear what the God of Heaven had to say.

In John 2 you will read the account of the water turned into wine but something to note in verse 5. Look at it if you will:

John 2:5 KJV

His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

Mary understood the power of the voice of God. I do understand that we do not see the Savior face to face to hear His voice but we, like Elijah, can hear Him speak through the still small voice.

Notice what 1 Kings 19:12 states:

1 Kings 19:12 KJV

And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

Please understand there is power in the voice of our God but also understand there is no way for you to hear it if it is loud around you.

Just like Elijah, we can experience His still small voice during discouragement. But God must put us in a quiet place to hear Him over the roar of this world.

Let me remind you as we close this morning's devotional out that you will not be able to hear the voice of God if it is too loud because He speaks in a still small voice. But when He speaks you will know it!!!

Psalm 2:1-12 KJV

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? [2] The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, [3] Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. [4] He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. [5] Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. [6] Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. [7] I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. [8] Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. [9] Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. [10] Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. [11] Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. [12] Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
