The Great Old Testament Passage Pointing To Jesus Pt. 4

Justin Baker • February 12, 2023

We have learned from the first three verses of man and nations that have gone up against the Lord now we must study God's response to their response to Him.

Something I have always heard and that is, "God responds to our response to Him" and that is so true. For example, God responded to Nineveh's reaction to the judgment of God on the nation with grace and mercy.

Notice if you will the response of the Heavenly Father to those that went against His Son:

verse 4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

Notice the phrase: he that sitteth in the heavens....

This is speaking of the Heavenly Father on His throne. We know that God the Father is on the throne. How do we know this? Hebrews 12:2 states: Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Notice the last four words of that verse: the throne of God.

This is speaking of God the Father's throne where he is residing right now as Judge over all the earth. He is the Creator and Judge. It amazes me that the Creator of all those that hate God still wants the best for them. That is why he sent His only begotten Son into the world to save them. We know the kings and nations rose up against His Anointed, but God the Father as Judge and Creator allowed it to happen for me and for you.

Notice the words: shall laugh

The God of Heaven on His throne will laugh. He knows that they will not win the battle so he simply laughs. It is amazing how the God of Heaven knows that man cannot win, yet He allows them to go through with what they want to do and the God of Heaven sits and laughs.

The next phrase in this verse is:....the Lord shall have them in derision.

The same thing that they are doing to the Savior is what will be happening to them. Those that despise the Savior would one day be despised by someone else We have heard how you reap what you sow, more than you sow and always later than you sow this is the sowing and reaping. Christ rewards the wicked with the punishment.

The next time you and I want to go against the Holy God of Heaven let us consider the path that leads to where we will be at. We will be in derision!!! The next time you think you can break the bands with Christ and go against His will you will find that you cannot win.

May God help us to be on the side of right and have a fear for the Lord because Proverbs 9:10 states The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Psalm 2:1-12 KJV

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? [2] The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, [3] Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. [4] He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. [5] Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. [6] Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. [7] I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. [8] Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. [9] Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. [10] Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. [11] Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. [12] Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
