The Great Old Testament Passage Pointing To Jesus Pt.3

Justin Baker • February 11, 2023

We have studied the first two verses of this chapter. Let's continue our study in verse three. Please share this Fire-starter devotional with others.

As we begin, let's notice our verse for today and that is verse three: Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

This verse has a thought of wanting to break bands from Christ just so they could do ungodly, abominable, and wicked things. This world is in the same shape that they were in back then, America has been trying her best to break the band with Christ. What I mean by this is that they want to get away from preaching and from true Bible teaching because they may have to live better. I love what my pastor said the other evening; "The Christian life is not about perfection, it's about direction." I know there are people who read things and think he is trying to tell me to live better. The fact is friend, some need direction!!!! Some try to break the band with Christ because they want to think that they are right, and the Bible doesn't say what it says but what they say it is.

I think about Judas when I consider this passage, he had to break the band with Christ to betray Christ. He had to leave being a part of Christ to deny Christ. The simple truth here is those that break the bands will break themselves eventually.

How do I know this? Look in Matthew 27:3-5 (3) Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, (4) Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. (5) And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

After Judas realized what he had done the Bible stated that he repented, cast the money down, and then went and hanged himself. The question has come up whether or not Judas went to Heaven. The answer to this question is we are uncertain about the fact of whether he did or not. But what we are certain of is that after he broke the band with Christ, the band broke him eventually.

Israel wanted to break the band with Christ to get another king according to 1 Samuel 8. They wanted to be like every other nation and have a king they could physically see, talk to, and touch. Truth is, when they broke the band with Christ they dealt with problem, after problem, after problem.

One thing Israel and the rest of the nations and kings that have gone against our Savior have found out, and some will find out, and that is you cannot go against God and win.

A preacher friend of mine, that is with the Lord now, stated, "God will never force His will on you, but He will make it to where you wish you had of done His will." What a statement!!!

Many have broken the band with Christ for the fact of wanting to live however they want to live and they have found out the hard way that if you are born again you will not want to live just anyway, you will want to do it God's way.

Friend, do not break the band with Christ or cast away the cords from you simply for the fact that you will not win.

Psalm 2:1-12 KJV

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? [2] The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, [3] Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. [4] He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. [5] Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. [6] Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. [7] I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. [8] Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. [9] Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. [10] Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. [11] Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. [12] Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
