Some Things Are Just Our Fault Pt. 2
David is dealing with trouble that is a result of past sins. The sins you and I commit will not only cause punishment now but it will haunt us later. Read today's Fire-starter and be encouraged.
In Psalm 3 David is running from Absalom, his son, as a result of his sin. It is interesting to note that David is complaining about something that God told him in 2 Samuel 12 would happen.
I think it amazing how many times God tells us the end result of sin, yet we still complain to God. If you and I do the crime we should not complain to God for the punishment. The punishment may last a day and sometimes lingers for years, but we must face the punishment.
God told David that evil would rise up against him within his house and now we see that here in Psalm 3 and also in 2 Samuel 15. We, like David, would have a hard time with friends forsaking us and turning against us, but we must remember that it was our sin that got us into the mess we are in.
With the way Absalom acted in taking over the throne people would be more prone to feel sorry for David, yet the truth is it was all David's sin that led him there.
Before you choose sides make sure you're on the right side. There are three sides to every story: 1.) The victim's side 2.) The guitly's side 3.) the truth and many times we stray away from the truth to take sides of a friend, family, and even a co-worker. May God help us to err on the right side.
Once again the things that we and others face are a direct result of sin.
Today's application is: always err on the side of right. Before you take sides get the three sides to every story and understand things and the situation before you make a judgment call. I would hate to stand before God knowing I don't do so.
Psalm 3:1-8 KJV
Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. [2] Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. [3] But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. [4] I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. [5] I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. [6] I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about. [7] Arise, O Lord ; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly. [8] Salvation belongeth unto the Lord : thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.
