Looking For Help In The Wrong Direction!
...in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.
Lamentations is a book of laments. Jeremiah is weeping over the destruction of the land.
In the latter part of the verse he writes....in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.
Before I get into it i must say that i know this verse in context but I would like to apply it to us today.
Many times we as Americans rely to much on other countries for our supplies. If you do not believe me look at where things were made next time you get something and many rely on the government for a lot of their money and resources. I know people who can work but they sit back and is lazy while others work. But that's not what I want to talk about.
Many times we look to the government or to the church or to our friends to save us from things that they are not capable of saving us from. We must turn to the God that puts those in captivity and from those that wants to destroy this land.
Judah was looking for a nation that could save them from the wrath of God but their was none. The only way they could have saved themselves was to turn to the Savior himself.
While we look for help in the wrong direction and to the wrong people there is a God waiting for you to come to him.
Psalm 121:1-8 KJV
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. [2] My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.[3]He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. [4] Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. [5] The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. [6] The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. [7] The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. [8] The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
Where are you looking for help? Where are you looking for salvation?
Friend my hope is not in my parents, my church, and definitely not in the government but in my Savior Jesus Christ.
There are things that people could get us out of but then there are others that only the Lord and his mercy and grace can get us out of.
They in vain looked for a nation to help, are you in the same boat this morning? Why don't you turn to Jesus? He is the only one that can save. He has a stretched out hand and his hand is ready to save, he is also ready to forgive.
Do you have a vertical look for help or is your help horizontal?
Have questions about the Savior? Feel free to message me!
Lamentations 4:17 KJV
As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.
