Introduction To Psalm 3 Pt.2

Justin Baker • February 22, 2023

This Psalm was written during discouragement that led to David being encouraged which caused him to praise the Lord. My prayer is that this Fire-starter devotional will be a help and encouragement to you.

David had many people that saw him as an enemy. Yet David saw Saul as a friend, and the Lord's anointed, and he saw Absolom as his child. This showed the heart of David for the Lord compared to the heart of man towards him.

Saul tried his best to kill David but David's heart was "I can't do anything to the Lord anointed and prosper." By the way, that is a true statement. David knew this and it could be that he knew this from reading the law where Aaron and Miriam went up against Moses, the servant of the Lord, and did not prospered.

Anytime a king would be appointed to the throne he had to not only write but read that copy everyday. We know this from Deuteronomy 17:18-20 notice this:

[18] And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites: [19] And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them: [20] That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.

David, a man after God's own heart, not only wrote the law but read the law daily. If this was a task for every leader in that day I think it is an important task in today's day. What if every world leader here in America or any country for that matter would read the Bible on a daily basis to get understanding on how to run a country, I am most sure that we would see a difference.

Although David was king he didn't stop being human, may we be reminded that as God's children we do not stop having trials and troubles due to being His child. In fact, we will deal with the adversary more than ever.

Over the next few days we will discuss David's discouragement and how he was encouraged and most of all how he praised the Lord.

Psalm 3:1-8 KJV

Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. [2] Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. [3] But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. [4] I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. [5] I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. [6] I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about. [7] Arise, O Lord ; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly. [8] Salvation belongeth unto the Lord : thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.

We find a great example of a man in Genesis 6 who is doing what God has commanded him. The question today is, are you doing what has been commanded of you?
