Introduction To Psalm 3

Justin Baker • February 21, 2023

Psalm 3 is a Psalm of encouragement. Often we are like David in the midst of discouragement yet we know the Father has everything under control. Take encouragement as we look through this special chapter of the Bible.

As we start our chapter we must be reminded of the background of this chapter: David was anointed King in the stead of Saul. Saul had disobeyed God many times and God had enough of his sin. Partial obedience is total disobedience.

David has had to run away from Saul many times but now he is facing an encounter with his own son, Absolom. This Psalm was written during this time of his life and as we look through this Psalm I pray that you will be encouraged and helped by the truths that are found in here.

Psalm three is for when man is discouraged, and needs help. This Psalm will help you in four ways:

1.) It will help you be realistic

2.) It will help you realize you are helpless

3.) It will help you be where God wants you so He can use you.

4.) It will help you see God for who He is.

May we be helped as we walk through this Psalm because we have all been in the place of discouragement in some form or fashion, but just like David we can turn our discouragement into praise.

Every discouragement ought to lead to encouragement that will bring forth the praise that the God of Heaven deserves.

Psalm 3:1-8 KJV

Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. [2] Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. [3] But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. [4] I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. [5] I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. [6] I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about. [7] Arise, O Lord ; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly. [8] Salvation belongeth unto the Lord : thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.
