Are You Living In Perfect Peace?
During the time of David's punishment he was at peace knowing he was in the will of God. David did not like the punishment given to him but he knew that as long as he was in God's will he was at peace.
What a great study this has been as we have walked verse by verse through this chapter. Take a moment and read today's text verse: Psalm 3:5 KJV I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me.
Notice the Psalmist David said, I laid me down and slept;..... David understood where his protection came from. David also understood the peace that comes from knowing he was in God's will.
There is a song that states, I'd rather die than go back to the world if it means that I might compromise. I'd rather see the gates of pearl.....This ought to be a true statement for the child of God. Many have been in bondage to the sins of this life and are living in conviction all the time knowing they are away from God. I would much rather be in peace knowing I am in the center of God's will.
Notice if you will the next phrase: .....I awaked;....
The God of Heaven gave David sleep, not only gave him sleep but woke him up. Many say that our heart keeps us alive, that is true, but I know my Savior is the one that keeps my heart pumping.
David got the rest he needed from the God that provided it. He awaked! He was refreshed to go on another day, as God was with him the day before He would be with him in days ahead.
Notice the last phrase of this verse: ...for the Lord sustained me.
David acknowledged that without the Lord he would have not made it through the night. Remember a couple of days ago we were dealing with those that see God from a different perspective because of our sin? As we look at verse five David is proving to others that it is the Lord that protects, guides, and lifts him up.
David had peace knowing that his sins had been forgiven!!! Hallelujah! What a wonderful thought this morning knowing that the peace that we enjoy is the peace this world can not give, simply because our sin has been forgiven.
I know I have been putting the words to one hymn but this morning I have two hymns I would like to share with you.
God will take care of you
1 Be not dismayed whate’er betide,
God will take care of you;
Beneath his wings of love abide,
God will take care of you.
Refrain:
God will take care of you,
through ev'ry day, o’er all the way;
He will take care of you,
God will take care of you.
2 Through days of toil when heart doth fail,
God will take care of you;
When dangers fierce your path assail,
God will take care of you. [Refrain]
3 No matter what may be the test,
God will take care of you;
Lean, weary one, upon his breast,
God will take care of you. [Refrain]
Wonderful Peace
1 Far away in the depths of my spirit tonight
Rolls a melody sweeter than psalm;
In celestial-like strains it unceasingly falls
O’er my soul like an infinite calm.
Refrain:
Peace! Peace! wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above;
Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray,
In fathomless billows of love.
2 What a treasure I have in this wonderful peace,
Buried deep in the heart of my soul;
So secure that no power can mine it away,
While the years of eternity roll. (Refrain)
3 I am resting tonight in this wonderful peace,
Resting sweetly in Jesus’ control;
For I’m kept from all danger by night and by day,
And His glory is flooding my soul. (Refrain)
4 And methinks when I rise to that City of peace,
Where the Author of peace I shall see,
That one strain of the song which the ransomed will sing,
In that heavenly kingdom shall be: (Refrain)
5 Ah! soul, are you here without comfort or rest,
Marching down the rough pathway of time?
Make Jesus your friend ere the shadows grow dark;
Oh, accept this sweet peace so sublime. (Refrain)
Application to today's Fire-starter: Rest assure that if you are in the perfect will of God you will have the perfect peace that comes from the God of Heaven.
A call to action: If you are without peace there are two reasons to check. Either: 1.) You are not saved or 2.) You are out of the perfect will of God. Your call to action is if you are without peace do an examination of your life to see what is missing in your life.
Psalm 3:1-8 KJV
Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. [2] Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. [3] But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. [4] I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. [5] I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. [6] I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about. [7] Arise, O Lord ; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly. [8] Salvation belongeth unto the Lord : thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.
