I Cried Unto The Lord!!!

Justin Baker • March 3, 2023

We have studied the first three verses of this chapter, let's look at verse four today. Ask God to speak to you today through his Word.

The Psalmist David wrote this passage during the time of Absalom's rebellion against David. As we have already discovered this was a direct punishment to David's sin. The first verse David acknowledges those that turned against him, verse two David acknowledged others viewed God differently than he did, and then lastly verse three you will find David acknowledges who God is to him.

Notice if you will verse 4:

Psalm 3:4 KJV I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.

David said, " I cried unto the Lord....."

Many cry to others instead of crying unto God. The Pharisees and Sadducees would pray openly for man to hear them and when the need would be met they would say God met the need.

David did not cry out to others, but to God. If we could get a hold of this truth it would help us greatly.

George Mueller was a man of prayer. It was stated that he had over ten thousand recorded answers to prayer. Why was this? He didn't broadcast to the world his problems and his situation but he went straight to the throne room of grace. I remember reading where there was an account of the orphanage that didn't have bread and milk. Mr. Mueller told the counsellors to get the children around the table to eat and he went into his prayer closet and took his need before the Gracious, Heavenly Father and while George Mueller was praying the answer came.

In David's time of trouble he cried unto the Lord and the Bible states that the Lord heard him. Psalm 66:18 states this: If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me :

David knew the Lord would hear him because he had been forgiven by the Savior. Notice the verse: 2 Samuel 12:13 KJV And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said unto David, The Lord also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.

The Bible states in 1 John 1:9 KJV If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Also notice Psalm 32 where David mentions being forgiven of his sin. Psalm 32:1-7 KJV

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. [2] Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile. [3] When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. [4] For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. [5] I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord ; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. [6] For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him. [7] Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.

Without confession there is no restoration. In Psalm 23 David explained that the Lord restoreth his soul. What a powerful thought!!!

I'm glad I can cry unto the Lord. This world we live in is crying for attention, for help, and for solutions and the answer is found in Jesus Christ. I'm glad David started there and we can too.

Notice Jeremiah 33:3 as we close today:

Jeremiah 33:3 KJV
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

Song for today is: Tell it to Jesus

1 Are you weary, are you heavyhearted?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
Are you grieving over joys departed?
Tell it to Jesus alone.

Chorus:
Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus,
He is a friend that's well known;
You've no other such a friend or brother,
Tell it to Jesus alone.

2 Do the tears flow down your cheeks unbidden?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
Have you sins that to men's eyes are hidden?
Tell it to Jesus alone.

[Chorus]

3 Do you fear the gath'ring clouds of sorrow?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
Are you anxious what shall be tomorrow?
Tell it to Jesus alone.
[Chorus]

4 Are you troubled at the thought of dying?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
For Christ's coming kingdom are you sighing?
Tell it to Jesus alone.
[Chorus]

Application to today's Fire-starter: When you need help, cry out to God first and let Him help you, let Him guide you and let God meet your need.

A call to action: We all go through trials and troubles so when we do go directly to the Father not to your neighbor, your friend, and anyone else you can think of because Christ is the one that can help more than anyone else.

Psalm 3:1-8 KJV

Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. [2] Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. [3] But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. [4] I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. [5] I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. [6] I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about. [7] Arise, O Lord ; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly [8] Salvation belongeth unto the Lord : thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.
