What Not To Be In 2023

Justin Baker • January 4, 2023

We hear so often of what to be in the new year yet we need to be reminded of what not to be in the new year.

Here are a list of things to not be in 2023

1. Don't be selfish

Always put others ahead of yourself. Someone put it this way, the way to have JOY is to put Jesus first Others second and Yourself last

Jesus.  = J

Others. = O

Yourself = Y

2. Don't be slack

We get days where we do not feel like doing things, and I totally understand that, but we must press on whether we have it in us or not.

The Bible speaks of the Bishop, Pastor, in 2 Timothy 4 to be instant in season and out of season. I understand this is talking about Pastors but let's apply this to our life. We must be instant in season and out of season in our Bible reading and Prayer life. In our soul winning efforts and in so many days.

I understand we get up and sometimes we do not feel like doing some things but we must not go off of feeling but faith knowing that God will bless us for it.

In the book of James it mentions faith without works is dead may we put feet to our mouth this year.

3. Don't be stubborn

Always allow the Lord to work on your life. You and I in our nature like to buck up against the chastenings or the punishments or even when someone likes to correct us on things. If you say you never have a problem with this you are a better Christian and even a better person than I am. I may look like I am ok when someone corrects me but deep down in the flesh it just wants to say I am going to do things the way I want to do it. God help us.

Psalm 32:9 states that we do not need to be like the horse or the mule. If a mule gets something in his mind he is going to do it so it must have the bit and bridle in its mouth so it can be led.

May we be like sheep and just follow the Shepherd this year.

4. Don't get ahead of the Shepherd

Stay close to him not in front of him. I hope you will read the sheep's point of view in Psalm 23. What a beautiful picture has been painted there.
