The Family Who Made It Back
Not everyone who goes out to Egypt comes back home.
We are living in a day where there are those who are living in Egypt spiritually. Sadly, out of those that go away spiritually, there are some who will never come back home.
Our text once again is found in Genesis 13
Genesis 13:1-5 KJV
And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south. [2] And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. [3] And he went on his journeys from the south even to Beth–el, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beth–el and Hai; [4] Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the LORD. [5] And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.
Abraham has gone to Egypt and sinned against God, but I am thankful he came back and got right.
There have been many people who have gone to Egypt and never made it out. There are those who have gone to Egypt and left, but sadly, Egypt never left them, then there are those like Abraham that come back and get right and continue for the Lord.
The question for you this morning is which category do you fall in?
A lot of tine our trip to Egypt is because we think we need to go there so we can make it through something.
Many people run to drinking or smoking or doing drugs, and then they get hooked on it, but they do not realize who else they are hurting.
They do not think about the child that is growing up under their roof. Sadly, they don't think about how that will affect them physically or mentally or emotionally.
We are living in a selfish world, and even Abraham dealt with selfishness in some sense. I believe Abraham was thinking more about himself when he got to Egypt.
Notice what he said in chapter 12
Genesis 12:12-13 KJV
Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive. [13] Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.
Notice....THEY WILL KILL ME.....
Abraham was thinking of himself in Egypt. Yes, we want what is best for our family, but we do not have to sin to get it.
Abraham thought it best to lie about him and Sarah so he could stay alive. May I remind you this morning that the Gkd who created you is also the God that can protect you in any given situation.
By the way, lets note that Abraham was scared that they would take his life. Remember, when you are away from the shepherd, you will always be scared something will happen to you.
Psalm 23 is one of my favorite passages in the Bible. It speaks of our Lord being the Shepherd. In verse 4, it is interesting enough that when David said when he would walk through the shadow of death that he would fear no evil. Do you know why he could say that? Because the Lord was with him.
The Lord never told Abraham to go to Egypt, Abraham went on his own free will. But it cost him.
He feared for his own life simply because he was away from the Lord.
Remember, God never told Abraham to go to Egypt. There is one exception, but this is not the rule where God told Jacob in Genesis 46 to not fear to go to Egypt
Remember, God doesn't normally call someone to go to Egypt where sin would be prevalent but rather stay away.
I want to encourage you today to stay away from Egypt and rely on God.
