Music matters
Godly music will exalt Christ. How to tell if you are singing the right kind of music.
The Bible states in Psalm 100:2 come before his presence with singing.
The Lord loves it when his children sing to him. There are many different styles and ways of singing, and that should not cause you to stray away from singing unto the Lord.
I am not trying to put personal preference in this, but I can not stand operatic music. That bothers me. I like it when someone who may not be able to carry a tune in the bucket or the shower runs dry when they sing because a lot of the time, they are singing from the heart.
There are many different songs that David wrote in the Bible. A lot of them were written during the times in his life when he was running from Saul or Absalom, but he directed his song to the Lord.
1. Every song that should be sung should be written directed to the Lord.
This is where I am probably going to shoot myself in the foot. There is a group that claims they are writing a song about the Lord when they are writing about a false god.
If the words sound great, look at where the writer is spiritually. You say who cares how the writer is spiritually as long as the words are good.
We are not talking about bad words, but not right with the True and Living GOD.
Remember, the Devil can make songs sound Godly when they are about him. He can transform himself in the image of light and make you think he is really on the right side when he is on the wrong side.
Sadly, in today's day, we don't care about writers to look at where they come from, just as long as the words are right on paper.
If you go with that perspective, then who cares if your pastor studies or not as long as he gets a good sermon on the internet before Sunday.
Who cares if the choir sings row row row your boat as long as the words are great. They sang it from the heart right.
Was the song written about Christ? Or written about mans worship to a false God?
The writers main goal should point people to Christ and not cause division among the brethren.
Satan will make the lyrics sound good while causing division in the church.
Had a friend of mine who was discussing a song that has driven me to make this devotional on music, and he said this certain song I will not sing because of several factors, but the main one was the division it has caused.
I thought for a minute and said that is a great point.
Let me ask you the songs you sing: Do they bring division, or do they exalt the name of Christ?
Are you going to his presence when you sing, or are you trying to show everyone your presence?
Lord willing, we will continue this thought of Music Matters tomorrow.
