Job Was A Great Man Because Of pt. 6
We have learned several things about Job over the last few days. Let's learn a lesson this morning that I believe will help us.
Our Fire-starter comes from Job 2. Our Fire-starter thought is Job was a great man because of
We have seen several things that characterizes the life of Job but I want us to look at his speech this morning. May it be a help.
There is power in the tongue. What comes out of our lips is ultimately what's in the heart. Because in the book of Matthew he records out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. James speaks of the tongue in James 3 as an unruly evil and cannot be tamed.
Notice with me our theme verse for today.
Job 2:10 KJV
But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.
Our response to the questions given to us tells others more about who we are and who He is to us.
When it's time to give up and quit how will you talk? See, it's easy to say I would never go against my Savior ask Peter about that. I would never leave Christ for the present world ask Demus that. I wouldn't bail on Christ when times are tough, ask the disciples about that they said, I go a fishing.
See what comes out of our mouth is ultimately what's in the heart and although we say we don't mean alot of things we say, our actions sometimes say differently.
Job said something that I believe will help us this morning and that is God has gotten it under control. You say brother Justin, I don't understand. Job realized one thing and that was God is going to do what he wants to do because he is God. I may not understand what he is doing but I must trust him and him alone.
His speech reflected his heart and the Bible states in our text verse that he sinned not with his lips.
How many of us, in so called wanting to get out of the trial we are in would curse God and die?
I hear so often that I would die for Christ. Friend, truth is we do not know what we would do until that time comes. What do I mean by this? You may say that now totally right with God but what if you are away from God you wouldn't want to say I would die for him.
Our speech lines up with our heart.
The reason Job could say this was because his heart was perfect before God. How many of us this morning have to admit there is some things we must get right before we can truly be completely clean?
Some have had a great start but sin has gotten in the way of fellowship between you and him and now you have to come clean with him.
Your speech will never be right until you get your heart right. Jobs speech was right because his heart was right with God. Is you heart ight with God?
Job 2:1-13 KJV
Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord. [2] And the Lord said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. [3] And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause. [4] And Satan answered the Lord, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life. [5] But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face. [6] And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life. [7] So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown. [8] And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes. [9] Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die. [10] But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips. [11] Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him. [12] And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven. [13] So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great.
