Fire Starter 6.8.22

Justin Baker • June 9, 2022

Good morning, our Fire-starter comes from 1 Chronicles 10. Our
Fire-starter thought is: the people that suffer because of our sin.

In our text we are transitioning from all the genealogies to different
kings and what they had done. Our First king that we see in this
specific chapter is known as Saul. Saul was anointed king because the
people were tired of God being their king. They were tired of not being
able to physically see their king or physically talk to their king. They
were ready for a physical king. If you read what God said about their
new king in 1 Samuel 8 you would say, I wouldn’t want that kind of king
but they wanted whoever they could get instead of God. By the way be
very careful of putting God on hold for you to have what you want. Not
only will he give you what you want but you will also suffer  with what
you got!!!!

In our text it mentions the close of Saul’s life. It doesn’t mention
anything here about his starting days, it mentions his final days.
Saul was wounded by the philistines according to Verse three and and
Saul committed suicide in verse four. His children and armourbearer
suffered because of the decisions Saul made.

Think about all the people that suffer because of your decisions. Dad,
your family suffers when you do not follow God and do what’s right. Mom
your children suffer when you commit sin. Sin not only hurts you but it
also cost others as well. the affect of sin goes further than just you.
Saul’s sons died his Armour bearer died all because of one man’s sin.
Think about that.

Our nation is suffering because of the Christians sin, our churches are
feeling the affects of the Christians sin and we must realize this
morning it’s not about us. Think about the next generation that will
suffer. Saul died for his transgression according to Verse thirteen but
we know Saul’s sons died as well in the battle. Your sin not only
affects you but others around us.

I hope you have a wonderful day in the Lord and remember Jesus died so
we wouldn’t have to!!!!

1 Chronicles 10:1-14 KJV
Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled
from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa. [2]
And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons; and
the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons
of Saul. [3] And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit
him, and he was wounded of the archers. [4] Then said Saul to his
armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest
these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not;
for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it. [5] And
when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the
sword, and died. [6] So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house
died together. [7] And when all the men of Israel that were in the
valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then
they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt
in them. [8] And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines
came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in
mount Gilboa. [9] And when they had stripped him, they took his head,
and his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about,
to carry tidings unto their idols, and to the people. [10] And they put
his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the
temple of Dagon. [11] And when all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the
Philistines had done to Saul, [12] They arose, all the valiant men, and
took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them
to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted
seven days. [13] So Saul died for his transgression which he committed
against the Lord, even against the word of the Lord, which he kept not,
and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to
enquire of it ; [14] And enquired not of the Lord : therefore he slew
him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.

We find a great example of a man in Genesis 6 who is doing what God has commanded him. The question today is, are you doing what has been commanded of you?
