You're Joking, Right? God Answers, Is There Any Thing To Hard For The Lord?
Sometimes we here the commands, and we think they are jokes when they really are not. God help us to obey.
Genesis 18:9-15 KJV
And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. [10] And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. [11] Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. [12] Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? [13] And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? [14] Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. [15] Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh.
There are times when things seem so out of ordinary that we find ourselves thinking it's a joke. This is how Sarah was thinking.
We laugh at God calling us to the most unusual callings, yet God has his way, and his ways are not our ways and his thoughts, not our thoughts.
It may be the most unusual time, for Sarah, she was ninety. For you, it may be in the grocery store trying to run in and grab something, and God impresses something on your heart to do something for someone, and it looks odd.
Maybe for you, it may seem impossible for you, and you think not me, I can't do that. Sarah used her age, saying she was too old for that, yet God used her to bring Isaac in the world.
The question for you is, is any thing too hard for the Lord? That answer obviously is no. Then why do we laugh when God calls us to do the most unusual task? The answer to that question is that we look at our own insufficiency instead of his all sufficiency.
You might be like Sarah laughing at the call God has made. Remember, he doesn't call the qualified. He qualifies the called.
Gods word will not return void, and Sarah did have Isaac.
No matter what God puts you through, remember he is the one that enables you to do what he has called you to do.
