Yes, Your Clothes Sets You Apart!
The church should not look like the world in their clothing, or attitude. Remember who you are representing.
Genesis 37:3 KJV
Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.
I was asked recently by a young person, who was around 8 or 9, why i didn't wear shorts. I replied that is not my thing.
One reason is if you were to explain to someone, who wears shorts, why you don't they would never comprehend it.
I want to be clear, if you wear clothing that doesn't represent our Savior very well that's between you and the Lord but as for me, since my Father is a King I must dress like a King's child!
This coat of many colours represented a lot of things.
1. This coat of many colours should the love of Jacob for Joseph
As we learned last week, Jacob has played favoritism with Joseph and his brothers hate him.
Why did Jacob not give everyone a coat of many colours? Why was Joseph the only one who received it?
I read a statement that was very good the other day and it was, God does not have Grandchildren he only has children!
Each one of us as his children have received the robe of righteousness as it were. He has placed this robe to show how much he loves us!
Isaiah 61:10 KJV
I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.
What we must realize is that Jacob did not give Joseph this coat of many colours to put in his closet and hide it. No! He gave this coat to him so he would wear it and display it.
This is how much my dad loves me could be heard by Joseph. Look at the coat of many colours I received!
We should be reminded that it was this coat of many colours that was carefully put together by his father. Time and effort had been put in to it.
2. This coat was to show that Joseph would receive the blessing of the oldest. He would rule the family.
Later, as we will study, Joseph had a dream that everyone would bow down to him.
He would receive the blessing from his father, Jacob, instead of Rueben.
Your clothing sets you apart friend.
Think about all the blessings that you have been given. You need to dress your best like you're blessed!
Joseph, wearing the coat, showed how he was the one that was getting the blessing.
How many of us walk around are looking like we are totally deprived of blessings?
I see many people throughout the week and it amazes me and a lot of tines i am disturbed by what I see people wear.
Sadly, many "church folk" and in say that kindly dress like they are the "worlds folk" because of how they look.
Next time you are at Walmart look at the way some folks dress. By the way, most of them will even say they go to "a church" which is more of a social club than anything else.
Dress your best because you are blessed. Dress your best because you are a child of the King!
Quit looking like a teenager who wants to rebel against their parents and dress however they want and start living like you're apart of a royal family and need to set the example of how a royal family should dress.
