Three From Psalm 3:3 Pt. 2
David's escape from Absalom showed who the Lord was in David's life. When we go through things may others see who the Lord is and not who He is not.
Notice our text:
Psalm 3:3 KJV
But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
Notice he said, "my glory". David knew the Lord was his glory. All boasting belongs to the Savior. Psalm 44:8 states:
Psalm 44:8 KJV
In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.
David acknowledge that there were some battles that he would face that only the God of Heaven could fight for him. Yes, David fought a lion and a bear with his bare hands. He did conquer Goliath with a sling and one smooth stone. He was able, by the grace of God, to flee from Saul and now as we are seeing fleeing from his son Absalom. Everything David did he brought glory and honor to God.
What does the word "glory" mean? It means to glory, to honor, to boast, to promote, or to make rich.
David knew the Lord is worthy of glory, boasting, and ought to be promoted. I wonder this morning is the Lord promoted to honor in our lives? David said, "my glory" he made it personal. When others will not glory, when others will not promote or honor the Savior, David said he would.
We are living in a day and hour where our Savior is not getting the glory like He should. We hear the people of God honoring everyone other than the Lord, bringing glory to themselves, while singing glory to his name. Promoting their agenda more than the Savior and what He can do for us.
Yes, David did sin and it brought dishonor to the Savior, but can you see how much dishonor is going on in the church of God?
Think about this: The Lord will honor those that honor him. Notice the verse:
1 Samuel 2:30 KJV
Wherefore the Lord God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the Lord saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
The Lord stated in Malachi 1 if He was a father where was His honor? Notice the verse:
Malachi 1:6 KJV
A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the Lord of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?
How much do you boast in our Savior? How much do you honor Him?
Hymn to consider to sing today!
Down at the cross
Where my savior died
Down where for cleansing
From sin I cried
There to my heart
Was the blood applied
Glory to His name
I am so wondrously
Saved from my sin
Jesus so sweetly
Abides within
There at the cross
Where He took me in
Glory to His name
Singin' glory to His name
Glory to His name
There to my heart was the blood applied
Glory to His name
Oh, precious fountain that saves from sin
I am so glad I have entered in
There Jesus saves me and keeps me clean
Glory to His name
Come to this fountain so rich and sweet
Cast thy poor soul at thy savior's feet
Plunge in today
You'll be made complete
Glory to His name
Application for our life: honor the Lord today and lift Him up and boast in in the Lord, because He is worthy of our praise.
A call to action: tell someone what God has done in your life today, whether it be providing a meal or money or a job. Tell someone how good God is to you.
Psalm 3:1-8 KJV
Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. [2] Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. [3] But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head [4] I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. [5] I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. [6] I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about. [7] Arise, O Lord ; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly. [8] Salvation belongeth unto the Lord : thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.
