The Worst Thing Is To Make A Name For Yourself. The Best Thing Is To Make The Name Of Christ Great.

Many people try to make a name for themselves when they should be lifting up the name of the Lord. May we lift him up!

Genesis 11:4 KJV
And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

Genesis 11 has always been intrigued me when reading it because it deals with so much of mankind today.

In our text, the people were of one language, and they got together to build a tower that would reach up to Heaven. The reason for this is so they could make a name. If you notice our text verse, it states, ...and let us make us a name,....

There are many preachers, workers, sports players, and singers who have the goal of making a name. Yes, our name is important because if you have a bad name, then you won't be able to do certain things, but what about lifting the name of the Lord up?

The goal of the basketball, football, and soccer player is to make a name for themselves, but for the Christian, we need to be lifting up the name of Christ.

I'm probably going to hurt some feelings, but if a basketball, football, soccer player, or anything for that matter claims they are a born-again believer that is given their all for God and playing on Sunday is really lying.

You say why is that? If they truly want to stand up, let them stand for agod. Let them not show up on Sunday to play the game or go fishing, mow the lawn, or get groceries.

They are making a name for themselves. You and I can either lift the Lord up or lift ourselves up. May we lift him up.

I echo what John said in John 3:30 KJV He must increase, but I must decrease.

Who are you making a name for? Our Savior, pointing others to him? Or yourself, pointing others to you?

Listen to your talk this week, your actions, and your walk. Is it pointing to Christ, or are you getting the praise for what you have done?
