The Qualifications Of A Servant

Justin Baker • August 23, 2022

Servanthood is not something that is talked about much. Although we are called to be servants we must understand the heart of a servant. Please note the key qualifications to a servant.

You can find today's Fire-starter in Ezra 1

please share this with Family and Friends!!!!

Notice our Text verse, verse 3

Who is there among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the LORD God of Israel, (he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem.

#1. The servant must be willing.

Who is there among you of all his people?

We find half-way servants in our day and age in which we live. People are willing to do something until they find out either what they have to do or where they might have to go. "If you are not willing to go the extra mile for Christ, do not expect God to give you an extra mile task!!!!"

So many want to go the extra mile in their Sunday school class yet there are some who wouldn't dare go the extra mile to go witness to someone or even do another task God has called them to do.

I know a lot of people that will go the extra mile in their hometown but not go to another town when opportunity arises. If God sees you are not willing in the least of things, don't expect him to give you opportunity in great things.

Preachers, if you are not willing to preach in the nursing home you are too good to preach in a pulpit to a congregation of 50 or 60. If you are not willing to preach to 5 or 6 do not expect God to give you the opportunity to preach to 200 or 300.

#2. The God of Heaven needs to be with the servant

.... his God be with him......

What do I mean by this? There have been times when the servant was willing but God wasn't with them.

You may ask what are you saying brother Justin? If you are willing God can use you!!! Yes that is true, but the truth is God may not be with that person if they go.

I am Willing to go to Africa but God has not called me to Africa. If I decide to go to Africa without Christ's permission it would not be good. Why is that? Because God is not with me!!!! He has not approved of me going to Africa!!!! Same thing goes for Australia or Asia or California or Utah, you name the place if God has not told me to go to that specific place I can't go. Why? God ain't called me

#3 The servant must have a go about them

.... and let him go up to Jerusalem,....

God doesn't use Lazy people!!!!

Sometimes we are willing and sometimes God is with us but we do not or will not go. Let him go up.... There must be some "GO" about the servant!!!!!

don't tell me you will go to Africa or Alaska or Utah or California or 2 or 3 hours down the road if your neighbor has not heard the message of salvation from your mouth. you are not a "GO" servant you are a lazy money grabber!!!!

don't ask for help in your mission project if you sit around and do nothing while there are those that are willing and have gone across the street to tell their neighbor and those around them about the Christ that died for their sin.

They had to GO!!!! The Word GOspel has GO in it!!!!

#4 A Servant must be ready to work!!!!

And build the house of the LORD God of Israel, (he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem.

There are many servants that are willing and they have God with them and they will go but there are some that will not lift a finger when it comes to the work of the Lord.

We have too many preachers that will not lift a finger when it comes to things being done. They will find someone else to do it for them. They will find people to pick up the trash or vacuum or even straighten up the hymn books.

We have too many singers that all they do is come and sing yet they won't put the effort into helping a church by coming early and seeing if anything needs to be done. They think their ministry is to set up their sound system and sing, tear it down and then leave and collect a check. What happened to a servant's heart in this day and time? There are few people willing to work!!!

We are seeing it day in and day out!!! Young men coming out of Bible college want a church already established so they can draw a salary and preach Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night and say they pastor a church.

Sunday school teachers are teaching Sunday school lessons yet they are not engaging with their class. Evangelist's travel the country, they show up at the time of the meeting and then leave immediately afterwards.

All I am saying is we must be willing to work!!!!!

Do you meet the qualifications of a servant this morning? If not, why don't you take a moment and ask God to help you be these things!!!!

Have a great day!!!

Ezra 1:1-11 KJV

Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying, [2] Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah. [3] Who is there among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the LORD God of Israel, (he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem. [4] And whosoever remaineth in any place where he sojourneth, let the men of his place help him with silver, and with gold, and with goods, and with beasts, beside the freewill offering for the house of God that is in Jerusalem. [5] Then rose up the chief of the fathers of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests, and the Levites, with all them whose spirit God had raised, to go up to build the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem. [6] And all they that were about them strengthened their hands with vessels of silver, with gold, with goods, and with beasts, and with precious things, beside all that was willingly offered. [7] Also Cyrus the king brought forth the vessels of the house of the LORD, which Nebuchadnezzar had brought forth out of Jerusalem, and had put them in the house of his gods; [8] Even those did Cyrus king of Persia bring forth by the hand of Mithredath the treasurer, and numbered them unto Sheshbazzar, the prince of Judah. [9] And this is the number of them: thirty chargers of gold, a thousand chargers of silver, nine and twenty knives, [10] Thirty basons of gold, silver basons of a second sort four hundred and ten, and other vessels a thousand. [11] All the vessels of gold and of silver were five thousand and four hundred. All these did Sheshbazzar bring up with them of the captivity that were brought up from Babylon unto Jerusalem.
