The Lucky Charm Is Gone!

Justin Baker • May 11, 2026

Some people rely on the things instead of the giver. May we always rely on the Blesser instead of the blessing.

Genesis 31:19 KJV
And Laban went to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that were her father's.

These images were idols, works of men's hands, that the family worshipped.

I have read where these images were considered "good luck charms" when needing advice.

I remember having a magic 8 ball when I was little. This ball was for jokes and giggles but I am sure there are those who really rely on the eight ball to give them advice.

It amazes me how the lucky charm, if you will, was an image. Something that could not speak, hear or see yet they sought it for advice.

Many today would say they do not carry idols around but instead of seeking the Lord in a matter they turn to the TV which only knows the freshly desires of a human being because the ones that run it are freshly themselves.

The TV will never give marital advice, pray for you when you are sick or even heal you when you need a special touch.

Let me remind you that there is a God in Heaven who cares about you and wants you to rely on him.

He said in Matthew 11:28-30 KJV Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

He also stated in 1 Peter 5:7 KJV Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

What are you relying on? What is your "good luck charm?"

There is someone better than what your relying on and his name is Jesus Christ!

There is no such thing as good luck charms but there is the God of Heaven who meets our needs. Phil. 4:19
