The Difference Between Wanting To Say Something And Having Something To Say

Justin Baker • January 13, 2025

The Difference was Amaziah wanted to say something, and Amos had something to say.

I encourage you to read Amos 7: 9-17, and you will see this thought brought before you

Amaziah, a priest for Jeroboam, wanted to please the king with his words. Amos, the prophet of God, wanted to please the KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS!

Amaziah had been put as a prophet by Jeroboam because Jeroboam was letting the low of lows to be the prophets in the kingdom. Let me state that although Christ takes those that are of the low of lows and can make something out of them. The ones he calls are not going to do what the lowest of lows has him do, but rather, then one that's on HIGH has him to do.

Amos was a part of the lowest of low, but he became the most important thing to give the message out. His message will be different than what Amaziah has ever said or the people that have followed Amaziah has ever heard.

What's the difference between saying something and having something to say? The difference is who you are pleasing.

See if you are trying to please someone you will do what that person wants you to do.

Amaziah not only looked at Jeroboam as king but as master because if he didn't say what Jeroboam wanted him to say, then he would lose his job.

Some need to be jobless in this day because, like Amaziah, they are speaking to keep a job, not a calling.

How do you know it's a calling? Simply if you would do it for the Lord and not for money. Where God guides, he always provides.

May I ask you this morning, "Are you teaching a Sunday school class just to say something, or do you have something to say?"

Choir, are you singing just to sing and song, or do you have a reason to sing?

Has the pastor asked you to sing in the choir, or do you do it out of a heart of gratitude?

Pastor, are you preaching to say something, or do you have something to say.
"There is a difference!"

Many a time in conversations we want to give someone our input, something to say, but we must give wise counsel, saying something!

Did you know that in silence, you can speak a loud message?
Think of Job's friends. They sat with him seven days straight without saying anything.

Life application: Look for ways to have something to say to someone in time of need or encouragement.

Remember! Proverbs 25:11 KJV
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
