The Destruction Of Holding On To The Past
Every single person has a past, a present and a future. Sadly, many are holding on to past experiences instead of moving forward. Don't get bogged down with the past!
Genesis 19:26 KJV
But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
The Lord was merciful to Lot, his wife, and his two daughters in sparing them from being destroyed in Sodom.
When they left his wife looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt. Her looking back gives warning to us as believers and I would like to share them.
1. Your past will destroy your opportunity to move forward.
The angel was able to get Lot and his family away from Sodom but couldn't get Sodom out of his family.
So many look at their past and think that they can't go forward or they can't live without their past. Friend, your past ought to cause you to want to go forward not staying in the past.
No one has ever lived in the past and seen the blessing of God on their life. NO ONE!
I know individuals that can move forward but they will not and you know why? Because they are living in the past.
Lots wife looked back giving acknowledgement of living in the past.
2. Your past will destroy any joy in the present if you let it.
She is not happy that she is leaving with her husband, and daughters. She is dwelling on what Sodom had offered her and now all that is gone.
Instead of rejoicing in the goodness of God you find yourself reminiscing over the carnal life you lived in Sodom
Sadly, many people are there. They are unhappy leaving Sodom but because of the Lord's mercy they are leaving. Instead of being thankful for the Lord's mercy they talk about what all God has taken them away from.
Problem with many people is that they are unhappy with change. They were comfortable in Sodom because it fit their lifestyle but now their lifestyle has changed. All because of the past Lot's wife was turned into a pillar of salt
3. Dwelling on the past will keep you from enjoying future blessings.
Think about all the joys that Lot's wife could not enjoy because of her past that she would not let go.
Friend, you will never enjoy the Christian life as longs as you are holding onto the past.
The past is sometimes an anchor that holds people down but think about the grace, mercy, compassion, help and so many other things that the Lord gives when we let go of the past.
