Ministry Is Not Determined By Facebook!

Justin Baker • June 22, 2026

I've been asked several times if I have Facebook and when I say no, they ask why?

I think we are living in a social media world. What i mean is if we don't have social media we are not being effective.

Social media has its good and bad benefits and sadly we look at a ministries fruitfulness by their status on social media platforms.

I am not saying having social media is bad, but what i am saying is judging a ministries success by their likes and follows on social media is not right.

I know ministries who have great social media presence but they do not have any community outreach.

They may be reaching the world while leaving their Jerusalem to die and go to Hell. God help us.

God will not judge you by how many followers you have or likes and shares but what you did with your time here.

The good of Facebook would be sharing the gospel and church events and keeping up with family and friends of long distance.

The bad side of Facebook is thinking that a ministry is successful because of the followers and likes they have.

Or that every ministry is biblical because they are on Facebook.

Facebook is an all inclusive platform that is used by every denomination and every group. Just because they quote a Bible verse doesn't mean they are biblical.

Tim Tebow claims to be a christian, and he may be, but he has John 3:16 under his eye. He still played on Sunday! That's not a set apart Christian.

There are many who have put Bible verses to get the Christians to like them but we can not judge a ministry base on that neither can we say someone is biblical because they put a verse on social media.

Here is a personal example of why I wrote this.

Several months ago a preacher I have preached for many times and just recently hadn't used me in a year or so. I went from preaching two to three times a year to not preaching at all. I didn't think much of it and seen the preacher and he asked me if I was still preaching? I said, yes! Why? He said you're not on Facebook anymore. I said yes, that is true. I got off Facebook back in 2024 and it has been a blessing. He said, well! I thought you quit cause I haven't seen you on there.

Truth be known, I have preached more off of Facebook than I have being on Facebook.

This past weekend my family came over and as my niece was leaving she asked if I had heard about a situation and I said, no! She said its all over Facebook. She continued and said, oh that's right you got off of Facebook.

We expect everyone to have a Facebook. Yes, there are some things you miss when you are not on there but I will say your ministry will get further out to those around your area if you simply live outside of Facebook and live for Christ in your community.

Social media will not mean a thing one day but what you did for Christ will.

Yes, you can use your social media for the sole purpose of getting the gospel out but if you are like what I was just scrolling through post after post after post and then realizing how much you could have gotten done for the glory of God had you used that time. It makes a difference.

Something to think on: how much would you get done for the glory of God if you would take the time you are scrolling on Facebook and put it to Gods work?

Some chapters of the Word of God offer hope and victory, and others show the ugliness of sin. Let us not despise the Lord for showing us what sin has done in the human heart. Instead, let us rejoice that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life.
