It Sure Ain't Like It Used To Be

Job used to be a tabret now he has become a by-word. During hard times we become like everyone else. Please take heart this morning and still be a tabret even if no one is listening.

Our Fire-starter thought is it sure ain't like it used to be from Job 17.

Job, as we know from our text, became a by-word instead of a tabret. So Many have put their tabret down and become a by-word in this day in time.

In order to understand the devotional more let's look at a couple of definitions

Tabret is also known as a Tabor.

TA'BOR, noun [Eng. tap.] A small drum used as an accompaniment to a pipe or fife.

BY'-WORD, noun A common saying; a proverb; a saying that has a general currency.

When others saw Job he used to stand out in the community and others knew who this great servant of the Lord was. Now he is just a by-word, just a proverb nothing special about this man.

I believe Job felt like some feel today. Some think they have no purpose in life, it would be better off just to be in the grave or even not be alive at all.

When they used to talk about Job they used to say, that man had the model family, that man was a faithful man, that man knows what's right. Now he has become, everyone goes through things I just don't understand why he thinks he is so special or look at Job there all struggling like the rest of us. Just a common saying, nothing special about this man.

When the world says common things about us, give them something uncommon to say

He used to be loud and noisy now he is like the rest of us. Even though it was that way for Job during his time of suffering he stayed faithful and God blessed him more.

During your time of sorrow don't become a by-word become and stay a tabret.

Hope you have a great day today

Job 17:1-16 KJV

My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are ready for me. [2] Are there not mockers with me? and doth not mine eye continue in their provocation? [3] Lay down now, put me in a surety with thee; who is he that will strike hands with me? [4] For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not exalt them. [5] He that speaketh flattery to his friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail. [6] He hath made me also a byword of the people; and aforetime I was as a tabret. [7] Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow, and all my members are as a shadow. [8] Upright men shall be astonied at this, and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite. [9] The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger. [10] But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you. [11] My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart. [12] They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness. [13] If I wait, the grave is mine house: I have made my bed in the darkness. [14] I have said to corruption, Thou art my father: to the worm, Thou art my mother, and my sister. [15] And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it? [16] They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.
