Genesis 26:18 KJV
And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.

There have been several thoughts that have come to mind mind as I sit here and write this devotional, but I believe this is the thought for the day.

Have you ever been to a certain store and the owner, of many years, has passed away and they closed the store?

Maybe its because the family does not want to keep the store going or they have their own lives they are dealing with.

After the death of an individual there is a tendency to stop what that individual kept up and that is what we see in our text.

After the death of Abraham the Philistines stopped the wells that Abraham had built.

It is said, after the death of parents, pastors, and Sunday school teachers its amazing how many wells have been dug spiritually that have been stopped. These wells need to be re-dug.

Notice a few wells that need to be re-dug

1. The well of holiness
How many have quit living a holy life because there is no one encouraging them to live holy?
There is a command to live Holy. 1 Peter 1:16 says, "Be ye holy; for I am holy."

2. The well of the Bible
This well seems to be unimportant in this day and hour. How many Bible wells have you seen stopped?

The pastor dies and the new pastor takes on another version of the Bible. Its time to pick up the shovel and redig the well. Get rid of the "versions" that you are using and get to the well of the Bible.

3. The well of music

Notice it was the Philistines who stopped these wells because of no one there to defend them. The Philistines are a picture of the world in our case and Isaac is a picture of the born again
Good godly music is a well that needs digging back up again.

We are living in a day and hour when many of our churches sound like Walmart when you walk into them.

The same filthy music in Walmart has creeped in our churches with christian words and we call that christian music.

I was at a Baptist church recently for a meeting. (I was invited by a friend)

They had me Sing a song and I was glad to lift up Jesus but then they had a young girl sing and she sang a "christian rap song" I left there displeased. I called my friend and told him that was a shame and disgrace for her to sing that in the house of God. He said they were growing. I disagree.

See what has happened is some wells have been stopped and no one is unhappy with it.

The world is always looking to stop the wells of the Christian.

4. The well of soul winning
The world has stopped this well in this day and hour with a lot of churches.

The world has told the church they do not like people knocking on their door because of COVID, or not knowing what will happen

Jesus has plainly given us orders to share the gospel with those around us.

Has the world stopped us for enjoying our well?

Many have allowed the world to change them. What i mean is they have gone the way of the world and the wells have been stopped and we do not seem to care.

I am thankful that there are still a remanent who are wanting to redig the well and get it back going again.
