Are You Prepared For The Future

Justin Baker • March 9, 2026

We do not know what day or hour may come when the Lord will call us home. There is nothing wrong in preparing for the future.

Genesis 23:4,9,11,13,15,19-20 KJV
I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight. [9] That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a buryingplace amongst you. [11] Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead. [13] And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there. [15] My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead. [19] And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of C!
anaan. [20] And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth.

Whether you think you need it or not there is a need for a burial place.

A friend of mine's wife passed away recently and he asked me to go to the funeral home to get things worked out for the funeral.

I was shocked how much funeral expenses were now days. One thing is for sure, no one should leave such a great burden on their family like this.

Funeral cost with everything is around 20,000 dollars. That is a lot of money.

Truth be known, like the Lord, we only need these graves temporarily. The born again individual, like our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, will one day be raised from the dead to meet the Lord in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18) The unsaved however will also be raised from the dead to stand before the great White throne judgment and be thrown into the lake of fire to face eternal punishment for their sins. (Revelation 20:15)

Like my friend, Abraham had to pay for a place for his wife to be buried, but, like Abraham, we are sojourners in the land we are in.

This earth is a temporary place for us to dwell but we must prepare here for the next life.

God did not put us here on earth to die but rather to prepare for the next life. He also put us here on earth to have fellowship with him.

The thing that really caught my attention as I read this was the fact that he stated he was a sojourner and needed a place to bury his dead.

Friend, we are on a journey and this journey will either lead us to one of two places Heaven or Hell.

The good news is Christ wants all to go to Heaven that is why he made a way for us to go.

If you are not saved you need to be saved. Call on Christ today.
